How do you flip dive in Animal Crossing?
Unlike a regular jump, a front flip happens when you run up to a cliff and jump right into the water. To perform this cool little move, hold down B and run forward. When you reach the edge of a cliff or a pier, press the A button without letting go of B or the left stick to front flip into the water.
There’s no point in swimming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons if you don’t know how to dive. To dive, just press Y while you’re in the water. Your character will dive under the waves, and from there, you can just use the usual swimming controls to move around–A to swim, joystick to move around.

I put mine across a river and up a cliff (so I need both the vaulting pole and the ladder if I want to visit them) and they’ve moved in and are sometimes home or out wandering and it hasn’t seemed to have affected them overmuch.
